Luciano Spalletti led Udinese to the Champions League 🇪🇺
Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti has never faced Udinese’s German coach Kosta Runjaić.
In the 2000/01 season, Spalletti coached Udinese for the first time, replacing Luigi De Canio and finishing the Serie A season in 12th place. After a positive spell at Ancona, the Tuscan coach returned to Udine in 2002 and surprisingly led the club to the UEFA Cup (6th place in Serie A 2002/03), repeating European qualification the following season (7th place in Serie A 2003/04).
In the 2004/05 season, Spalletti completed his masterpiece in Friuli by leading Udinese to fourth place in Serie A, qualifying the club for the first Champions League in its history.
Spalletti left wonderful memories in Udine, and it was again in Udine, on 4 May 2023, that he won the Scudetto as Napoli’s manager.
Spalletti is unbeaten against Udinese since 2017, when he lost on Inter’s bench (Inter – Udinese 1-3). Since then, Spalletti has collected 5 wins and 2 draws, including the title-winning draw of 2023.
Kosta Runjaić always defeated by Juventus ❌
Udinese’s German coach Kosta Runjaić took charge in June 2024, leading the Friulian side to 12th place with 44 points.
In his 18 months in charge, Runjaić has met Juventus three times, losing all matches — each against a different Juventus coach: Thiago Motta, Igor Tudor and Massimo Brambilla.
2/11/2024 Udinese – Juventus 0-2
18/5/2025 Juventus – Udinese 2-0
29/10/2025 Juventus – Udinese 3-1
Today, Runjaić will try to bounce back against the fourth Juventus coach he will face: Luciano Spalletti.
No press conference for Runjaić 🤐
Udinese’s German coach Kosta Runjaić decided not to hold the usual pre-match press conference due to time constraints. Udinese played away in Parma, and Runjaić preferred to invest more time in preparing his players. (Source: Tuttoudinese.it)
Here you can watch the highlights of Parma – Udinese:
Will Juventus field Openda and David together from the start? ⚽
According to Luciano Spalletti’s statements in the pre-match press conference, Juventus should start Michele Di Gregorio in goal, confirmed by Spalletti as the club’s “first-choice goalkeeper.”
His backup, Mattia Perin, played the last two matches in Norway against Bodø/Glimt and in Turin against Cagliari, but felt a slight physical issue and will not be on the bench today. Third goalkeeper Carlo Pinsoglio is also out. The substitute goalkeeper will therefore be Simone Scaglia, the backup keeper of Stefano Mangiapoco in Juventus Next Gen (U23).
In defense, the centre-backs will be Gatti, Kelly and Cabal. In midfield, Fabio Miretti will likely play alongside Teun Koopmeiners, with Cambiaso and Kostić on the wings.
In attack, Francisco “Chico” Conceição will probably play behind the attacking duo Openda-David. The two strikers have disappointed so far: Openda has scored only once, while Jonathan David has scored two goals.
In Norway they were decisive in Juventus’ win: the Belgian equalised (1-1), while David, coming on for Openda, scored the winning goal (3-2).
They have played few minutes together; the matches with the highest shared playing time were against Inter (4-3) and Borussia Dortmund (4-4).
As stated by Spalletti in the press conference, even though they have similar traits, the two forwards can play together. This match will be an opportunity for them to improve their chemistry and contribute to Juventus’ cause.
Probable turnover for Udinese 🔁
Many Udinese players missed some training sessions due to fever and illness suffered on Sunday evening. According to Messaggero Veneto, it will not be certain until the last moment who will play and who will not.
At the end of the article you will find the probable line-up predicted by most Italian sports newspapers, although extensive turnover is possible.
Dino Zoff: the double black-and-white hero 🧤⭐
When Juventus and Udinese face each other, it is impossible not to think of an icon of Italian and world football: Friulian legend Dino Zoff, former goalkeeper of both Udinese and Juventus.
Born in Mariano del Friuli on 28 February 1942, Zoff was one of the greatest goalkeepers in world football history: sober, essential in his saves, never spectacular by choice but always decisive at crucial moments. His Serie A debut came with Udinese in the 1961/62 season at just 19 years old — a bold choice by the Friulian club, which entrusted such a young goalkeeper with a position usually reserved for far more experienced players. Zoff immediately showcased personality, excellent reflexes and an impressive calmness for such a young man. His performances, even through difficulties, attracted the attention of major Italian clubs, confirming that Friuli had produced a talent destined to make history.
After spells at Mantova and Napoli, the move that would define his career arrived: in 1972 Zoff joined Juventus under Vycpálek and entered one of the most successful eras in the club’s history. In Turin he played eleven memorable seasons, becoming an icon and a reference point for teammates and supporters. With Juventus he won everything a goalkeeper could dream of: six Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia trophies, the 1977 UEFA Cup and various international competitions of the time. His trademark at Juventus was consistency: he played 332 consecutive Serie A matches, a still-standing record that reflects his physical longevity, professionalism and reliability. He also became club captain, leading a generation of champions like Gaetano Scirea, Marco Tardelli, Claudio Gentile and Antonio Cabrini.
His greatest triumph arrived in 1982, when — still playing for Juventus — he led Italy to World Cup glory in Spain, becoming at 40 the oldest player ever to win the tournament.
Italy’s 1982 World Cup triumph was due largely to Juventus’ core (including World Cup Golden Boot and Golden Ball winner Paolo Rossi) and to two Great Friulians: Dino Zoff and Enzo Bearzot.

Black-and-white night
Francisco Conceição has played two excellent matches, against the Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League and against Cagliari in Serie A. The Portuguese player has stated that he wants to start scoring more goals.
Today Juventus will need to maintain high concentration and secure qualification for the quarter-finals. At the same time, they will be able to use this match to further develop the ideas of their new coach.
Udinese will certainly try to trip Juventus up but will also use the opportunity to give playing time to many reserves.
Don’t miss this Coppa Italia match and light up the “black-and-white” night.
